Newborn Baby Bath Time

How to give a bath to a newborn baby

1T BATH

Generally it gets so frightening for most moms especially first time moms to bath their young ones for the first time. Well, bathing a baby is a no difficult task, some moms think that bathing the baby frequently will keep their skin dry,no it also depends on the type of soap or lotion one uses to bath the baby. Also if you bath the baby and leave the soap to dry up on the skin before rinsing then the skin is likely to dry up.

Don’t get twisted that just because you baby is very delicate at this time, its not necessary to give him or her a bath, sponge bathing is ok especially for the first two or three days before baby gets used to the new temperature and environment .

For the first few weeks, the baby’s umblicol cord is the most sensitive part on the body and you ought to be careful when bathing the baby.

Here are the requirements needed to bath the baby

  • A bath tab
  • warm water(not hot)
  • Cotton wool and a clean soft wash cloth
  • A mild soap
  • A warm towel and blanket to keep baby warm after the bath
  • Baby oil/lotion
  • Change of clothes and a clean diaper
NB; Remember never to leave the baby unattended to,if you have to grab or get something go with the baby.

Steps to follow when giving baby a bath

  • First and foremost ensure that the temperature of the room is ok i.e not cool
  • Prepare the water, warm water and that you can test using your elbow or wrist and ensure that there are no hot patches.
  • You can now undress the baby keeping his or her diaper on because he or she might want to poop or so.
  • Using the towel, wrap him or her leaving the head uncovered.

baby 1st 1st bath

  • Take a piece of cotton wool dumped in warm water, clean his or her face carefully including the ears not pricking or scratching baby’s eyes or or face.
  • Support your baby’s head and neck using one arm then begin to wash the head gently with soap and water then pat the head dry using the towel.
  • You can now fully undress the baby then while still supporting the head and the bottom, lay the baby in the warm bath and then begin to wash your baby.
  • Using baby’s wash cloth, cautiously clean baby’s body especially the armpits, under the chin, behind the knees, around the neck, behind the ears, fingers and groin. These parts of the body holds a lot of hidden creases not forgetting the genital area and his or her bottom that is cleaned using water only.

  • Baby is now fresh and ready to go. Rinse him or her well then support the head and neck including the bottom and lift the baby up from the bath tab and lay him or her on that soft spread towel then wrap your baby and pat dry the body.
  •  Remember not to expose the baby after the bath. After drying the body, take off the towel because it is now wet and have a warm blanket to keep the baby warm first before dressing.
  • This is now the perfect time to give your baby a massage and this will keep the baby more relaxed and sleep well.

bby massage

  • Check on your baby’s skin keenly then apply the correct lotion that suits his or her skin.
  • You can now dress the baby putting on his warm tops first so he or she is not exposed to cold a lot. Then the diapering session can follow.
  • Check the baby’s umblicol cord and treat it as directed.
  • Place the baby in a safe place in the cot maybe so you are not worried of him falling while you go empty the bath tab.

NOTE; Remember young baby’s are always very delicate and should be handled with a lot of care and kept warm at all cost.

How easy can this exercise get. Your baby’s first bath can be so terrifying for him or her and can really scream her heart out,but that is very normal he or she will soon get used to it and fall in love with the bath water.

Generally its recommended to give the baby a bath before meals so he or she does not get shaken, this can cause vomit. Also a bath is important at bed time. Therefore its all on you mom to decide when you want to bath your child and keep them fresh all day long.

Diapering with Disposable diapers

These are some of the things you will require to diaper your baby using a disposable diaper:

Baby with disposable diaper

  • The right size clean diaper: Ensure that you have the correct size of diaper that will nicely fit your baby.
  • Petroleum  jelly or a relieving diaper cream: This is necessary to keep baby off  diaper rash.
  • Baby wipes, Cotton balls damped in water or  wet cloth:  These are used to help dry or wipe baby before putting  on  a clean diaper, and note that if baby has sensitive skin use lukewarm water to wipe him or her.
  • An extra cloth for boys :  It can always get messy at times with the boys, you can be sprayed on with pee if  he’s not covered.
  • A diaper pail or a biodegradable bag: Its necessary that you have one of these to drop the used diaper for later dumping.

Note to remember: Never leave your baby unattended to on the changing table or wherever, babies are known to roll over and so they might wiggle and fall off.

Steps to follow when using disposable diaper:

  • Place the baby in a warm clean soft surface if baby has a mess on his or her diaper
  • Lift up the legs gently and place the clean diaper below or have a towel under the baby and ensure its well placed.
  • Then, slowly unfasten the adhesive tabs of the dirty diaper on both sides and then fold the tabs back.
  • You can then use the front part to wipe off some of the poop
  • Fold the diaper making sure that the clean side faces up, this will prevent baby’s unclean bottom from the clean diaper.
  • Grab the wet cloth or wipes or the dump cotton balls and wipe the baby’s bottom gently from front to back, this applies mostly for baby girls to prevent bacterial infection. Make sure this is done perfectly. Note that if its a boy put a cloth to cover the penis to avoid pee sprays on you.
  • Make sure baby’s bottom is clean and dry then to avoid diaper rash, its appropriate to apply diaper cream or petroleum jelly.
  • Its now time to remove the dirty diaper.
  • Now bring the front part of the clean diaper and cover baby’s front, and for infants, its advisable not to cover the umbilical cord if its not yet dry or fallen off therefore you will have to fold the front top of the diaper.
  • Fasten the diaper from the back strips onto the front strips, and ensure that baby’s thighs are not too tight or too fastened or else this may result to bruises or numbness on baby’s thighs and this will make them uncomfortable.
  • Remember to keep baby on a more secure place then dispose off the dirty diaper.
  • After all this exercise, don’t forget to wash your hands.
  • Get you baby’s clean clothes and put them on for him or her.

GoodBye-Disposable-Diaper-welcome-cloth-diapers

You may want to cut down on costs of buying disposable diapers and opt for cloth diapers.

These are some of the things you will require to cloth diaper your baby.

  • Diapers: Generally one should have 15 to 24 cloth diapers.
  • Diaper pail or wet bag: This is necessary to drop the used diapers, the pail should have a lid to help contain the smell inside, the best wet bag is one that is non leak-able and has a zipper to also contain smell and any leakages in. The wet bag is cool for travels.
  • Wipes; use wash clothes dumped in warm water or wipes, these can be disposable or cloth wipes or dry wipes if you are not going to air baby’s bottom.
  • Liners: These should be disposable or cloth  liners. The cloth liner protects the cloth diaper from being smeared with poop. Disposable liners make it easier since they are just thrown.
  • Diaper cover: Is used to cover baby’s diaper and an extra is necessary to change.
  • Safety pins or snappies: These will hold the diaper and the diaper cover well from falling off baby’s bottom.

Thirsties Diaper Covers simply Rock

Thirsties Diaper Covers Review – Best Diaper Wraps For Moms

Its been quite a while without really enlightening you about the touchy touchy subject on diaper covers/diaper wraps.

Thirsties diaper covers have got some of the most innovative designs that offers both the comfort-ability and the much needed baby protection for the baby against any kind of leaks.

thirsties diaper covers are way better - ocean

I actually took a look into the fairly known ocean thirsty type ones – Large, Medium and the x-small one(6-12 lbs), here is what I got.

Thirsties diaper covers bring aboard some of the much needed support through its waterproof exterior for all types of cloth diapers, be it flat, contoured, fitted or pre-folded cloth diapers.

These diapers have been designed with a single layer of polyester laminate thus making them hassle easy to wash while offering optimal fresh air flow for the diapers to breath.

Just in case it gets soiled up, it is always quite easy to wipe and wash them clean before re-using them. Being a product designed by bright moms for the everyday moms, I do believe it a smart product so far so good with lots of moms raving about it already especially if you are a green mommy(eco friendly solution oriented) then this is a must have for your baby. Besides it is much usable all the way from the time they have “small chicken legs” to the time they become sturdy enough to potty train.

Actually I am yet to find wrap snaps that work like the Thirsty one, although Thirsties Duo Wrap Snap(Blackbird) and the Thirsties Duo Wrap (Honeydew) seem to do the magic as well.

Thirsties Duo Wrap Honeydew Thirsties Duo Wrap Snap baby on a Blackbird

Thirsties Pros

  • I actually like how the wrap gives room for the baby Bummis. Remember Comfort is Key for the baby.
  • The fabric material is very flexible, another add-on for baby comfort.
  • Gussets does the real hard work in preventing baby leaks through the legs – I would award it a 10/10 for this
  • Washable for re-use and still remain looking sturdy.
  • Its cheaper and can get easily get a load of them if you aren’t interested in re-using them.
  • Urine is no biggie with these. Was actually worried about this part. Questions Answered!!
  • I was blown away by how adjustable and easily fits on pre-folds.
  • A variety of colors to chose from
  • They dry super fast when washed.
  • Aren’t ridiculously bulky like some of the stuff I see out there. Can easily stuff additional ones into your diaper bag and tote lightly.
  • Say bye bye to red baby marks on the legs or tummy.

How About the Cons

  • Thirsties haven’t really gone into doing something for all the medium baby size range. The Small and XS still do the job real well.
  • Try and keep watch just in case the moisture touches the white trimming. It’s observed to cause leaks, It is a rare event though.

Conclusion

thirsties duo wrap snap ocean blue

If you are so much of a newbie mom, you may need to arm yourself well and have some stock ready to use (36 of them is a good number to start with).
The moment you see your baby learns how to undo the Velcro, then you need start doing some potty training real quick. We all grow older and it only makes perfect sense to start training them for the next stage.

Remember, there is a lot of hullabaloo out there about cloth diapering and the use of various detergents.

Here is my advise:  Tide original powders are doing it for me much better compared to fabric  softener. The fabric softener seems to leave some residues that prevent proper absorption and find it much better with Tide. For Baby diaper rashes, I brought into the game some little bit of organic coconut oil (Checkout these benefits) which is much much better than the traditional diaper rash creams.

All the Best to all the Mommies who do cloth diapering. Thirsties diaper covers are just Awesome.. Awesome.. Go go for them. Hopefully, this thirsties diaper covers review is helpful to you. Don’t forget to hit the share button like always.

  • Some moms are not just ready to get into the hassle to of cleaning baby diapers, they just want it easy and keep going with their life. This is a common phenomenon amongst the modern mom who likes it easy.
  • Be ready to clean them with quite some water and spend the time to iron them as well. This is one task that some new moms are not just ready to undertake, thus prefer the use of disposable diapers to the cloth diapers.
  • They are normally not so good especially when you are in a place that you don’t want to carry them along with a risk of getting smelly poop!
  • If you will be traveling, then it may be a pain to you as you will keep worrying whenever someone takes a look at you!! Condemning yourself for causing a new wave of polluted air to breathe.
  • You will need to change them more frequently compared to their counterparts.

DISPOSABLE  DIAPERS
These can be easily categorized as either absorbent or super absorbent.

DISPOSABLE  DIAPERS PROS

disposable diapers

  • The baby will always feel more comfortable on these ones. This is due to the softness and the absorbent design in them.
  • Other than the absorbent design. they are also sturdy and leakages are rare.
  • These are a breeze to change at the tap of your fingers thanks to the designers of the strips that comes ready for fastening and quick loosening making it ready for disposal.
  • A bonus with disposable diapers is that they are also easy to move around with. These are the kind of diapers you don’t want to get stressed with. Use it and damp it then get another FRESHone. Easy Right?
  • Good way to stick to your day to day chores for laundry handling

DISPOSABLE  DIAPERS CONS

They are not Eco-friendly as environmental veterans (You and me) would want it to be. I have seen one company starting to produce Eco-friendly one’s.

  • After all. poop! isn’t that bad!! It part of the creation and can be always turned back into being useful. Its the material used to make diapers that can be hazardous.
  • Potty training is rather challenging as they are highly absorbent to an extent that the baby forgets about the wetness.

CONCLUSION
That’s it for now, you can see that both of them equally have the pros and cons. conversely, the reason most parents will chose disposable over  the former is the ability to save themselves from washing a diaper over and over, let alone touching poo-pooh!
